Not Historically Accurate, But Who Cares? These Party Gowns Were a Hit
I impulse-bought two of these big poofy dresses – honestly, they were just the kind of vintage ball gowns for parties that I couldn't resist, and we ended up using them as our go-to Hamilton watch party outfit ideas for the night. One pink, one powder blue.

My friend and I figured why not, we're already doing themed snacks and a balloon arch, might as well go full extra. They arrived in a massive box and I braced myself for that crinkly Halloween-store polyester? The fabric is surprisingly heavy. Like, not heavy-heavy, but it actually drapes instead of just sticking to your legs with static.

We tried them on the night before and nearly had a panic attack with the zippers. They run small. I'm usually a size small/4 and the medium was still a fight around my ribs – definitely size up if you want to breathe, eat any of the snacks, or raise your arms to wave at the screen. My friend went up two sizes and was much happier.

For the price, they're actually decent affordable colonial dresses for women – not museum-quality by any stretch, but perfectly fine for a themed hangout.

Party night was a mess in the best way. We were running around filling champagne flutes, kneeling for a hundred group photos, and attempting way too many dramatic spins. I stepped on my own hem at least three times, and one of the girls somehow spilled red wine down the front of the pink one – I thought it was game over, but it dabbed right out with a wet napkin.

No torn seams, no loose lace, which was a relief because I've definitely had costumes fall apart after one wear. And let me tell you, these pink and blue matching dresses for friends were an absolute hit – we got so many texts from people watching our Instagram stories asking where we got them.

The colors photograph way better than I expected – that soft pink and sky blue really pop under warm lights. The full skirt gives you that dramatic floor-length lace gown silhouette that makes every spin look epic, even if you're just twirling in your living room. I'm already thinking I might wear the blue one again for a vintage tea party later this summer, or maybe just keep it for Halloween.

It's not some historically accurate piece – I don't know anything about 18th-century accuracy and neither did anyone at the party. It's a fun, dramatic dress that makes you feel like you're in a period drama, even if you're just eating chips on the couch between songs.

Only real gripe is the sizing (seriously, size up) and the zipper can be a little sticky. But for the price, I've seen way worse. I'd buy again, just one size larger.
