My Fuchsia Bodycon Held Up at the Oaks
I wore this short bodycon dress to the Oaks and I swear I got stopped like a million times, which was cool but also kinda wierd because I'm not used to that attention.

Anyway it was actually comfortable which is rare for race day clothes cause you're on your feet for hours and eating all the fried stuff. So I figured I'd share some thoughts cause I know everyone's scrambling for outfits right now.
First off the date is May 1st 2026, I almost booked my flight wrong cause I had it in my head it was later but nope first Friday in May like always. Gates open at 11 AM Eastern and the main race is around 8:30 PM which is late but honestly the evening light makes your pink dress look so much better than midday sun so thats a win.

I ordered four different fuchsia dresses before landing on this ruched bodycon. My friend got a flared mini in the same tone and she looked great too if you dont want something super tight. But here's the thing - fabric matters so much. I saw girls in cheap thin jersey that showed every sweat mark and wrinkle, it was not cute. Mine had thick spandex with a lining that hid everything and barely wrinkled after sitting on bleachers for hours. The ruching helped hide my tummy area too which I appreciated after eating cheese curds.
Hem length is something I almost messed up - I was gonna buy a micro mini but then realized I'd be hiking it up all day climbing steps and stepping over barriers. Mid thigh is perfect. And get a stretchy waistband cause you will drink bourbon slushies and eat fried chicken and you dont want anything digging in. My friend tied her wrap dress loose on purpose and she was so glad after her third cocktail.
Hats are a whole thing. I wore a smaller pink fascinator with purple feathers cause I have long blonde hair and a huge hat would just weigh it down. My friend has thick red hair so she went with this dramatic orange and green feather thing that looked amazing against the fuchsia. Bigger hats work if you have volume, smaller ones if your hair is fine, thats my hot take.
Accessories I kept simple - thin gold bangles and little hoops. Chunky stuff gets tangled in feathers and feels heavy after walking all day. My friend had this cute checkered clutch that fit phone lipstick tickets and sunscreen, way better than a big tote cause you don't want to lug that around.
Makeup wise I did light foundation with peach blush, not hot pink cause that clashes. Bronze eyeshadow and waterproof mascara cause you will sweat. Rose nude lipstick not matching magenta, softer lips let the dress pop. Hair I just did loose waves with some spray, my friend pulled hers back to show off her hat. Nothing fancy cause updos fall apart.

Honestly I was nervous about wearing bright fuchsia dress but it ended up being great. People kept complimenting and I never wanted to change. When youre shopping dont just look at pictures, check the fabric thickness and stretch. Pair with a fun hat and simple jewelry and you'll be good from morning till the last race.

Also definately check the time zone if youre traveling cause Eastern time vs Pacific tripped up my cousin last year. Anyway thats my two cents, hope it helps.
