Our Heritage: Three Generations of Dressmaking
The story of Kemedress is deeply rooted in our family's rich history of tailoring and design. Our journey began in Suzhou, China—a city world-renowned for its exquisite silk and historic craftsmanship—with our beloved grandmother, Kefang. She was a master 'Xiuniang' (a highly skilled tailor specializing in fine, intricate embroidery) in a traditional local workshop. The letter 'K' in Kemedress proudly honors her legacy.
Our mother, Hui E, began her apprenticeship under our grandmother when she was just 13 years old. Over the past 42 years, she has dedicated her life to the art of dressmaking. While she began her career handcrafting traditional Xiuhe suits and elegant cheongsams for Chinese brides, she expanded her expertise 15 years ago to design beautiful Western-style wedding gowns to meet the evolving dreams of modern brides. The 'E' in Kemedress represents her name, Hui E.
Today, my sister (Eva) and I (Matthew) are incredibly proud to carry on this legacy as the third generation of dressmakers in our family. We founded our online boutique to share our family's handcrafted gowns with happy brides all over the world. Our brand name brings our whole family together: Kefang, Hui E, Matthew, and Eva.
